This July, two Sheldon Alumni will pull on the green and gold at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. The Games run from 23 July to 2 August, and the entire Sheldon community will be watching every step and every stroke of the way! 

Georgia Harris, 2021 Alumna, is sprinting onto the world stage! 

Many of you will remember Georgia Harris from her time at Sheldon College. What you may not know is just how far she has come, and how hard she has fought to get there. Georgia is currently one of Australia's most exciting young sprinters, and she will represent Australia in both the women's 100 metres and the 4x100 metres relay in Glasgow.

Her story is one of extraordinary resilience. After career-threatening knee surgery in 2020, Georgia made a dramatic comeback, recording ten personal bests in the 100m and 200m across the 2021/22 season alone.

The accolades have followed. In 2025, she went to the World University Games in Germany and went completely undefeated, winning the 100 metres, becoming only the second Australian woman to claim that title, and the first in 70 years, following Shirley Strickland in 1955. Then, at the 2026 Australian Athletics Championships in April, she was crowned Australia's fastest woman, winning the national 100 metres title for the first time.

She followed that with a relay appearance at the 2026 World Athletics Relays in Botswana, running the anchor leg as Australia secured qualification for the 2027 World Championships.

Throughout the setbacks, Georgia has credited her mum, Olympian and training partner Riley Day, and coach Paul Pearce as her greatest sources of strength.

Jamie Jack, 2020 Alumnus, is making a splash in Glasgow!

Also representing Australia in Glasgow is fellow Sheldon College alumnus Jamie Jack, a sprint swimmer who has earned his first Commonwealth Games selection in truly special circumstances.

Jamie secured his spot after finishing second to world record-holder Cameron McEvoy in the men's 50 metres freestyle at Australia's swimming trials in Sydney. An incredible result that confirmed him as one of the country's premier sprint swimmers. Earlier this year he had already turned heads by swimming 21.43 in the 50 metres freestyle, a time that would have won bronze at the Singapore World Championships.

What makes Jamie's Glasgow story even more special is who he'll be sharing it with. For the first time, Jamie will head to the Commonwealth Games alongside his sister, Australian swimming star Shayna Jack, the siblings earning selection together in a landmark moment for their family and for Australian swimming. They are the first sister-brother duo to represent Australia at the Commonwealth Games since Emma and David McKeon in 2018.

Jamie was poolside when Shayna secured her own spot, and the Paris Olympic gold medallist was moved to tears by the moment. It's a beautiful reminder of what sport, and family, is all about.

For those of us who knew Jamie during his Sheldon days, seeing him line up in the green and gold on the world stage will be a moment to savour.
