Jasmine Renny, 2018 Alumna, has recently been recognised as the 2023 Queensland Youth Volunteer of the Year, by Volunteering Queensland and the Queensland Government.

Jasmine was awarded this out of more than 300 applicants within her category across the state. This award recognised Jasmine’s outstanding commitment to volunteering in Queensland, and how her various roles have positively impacted the lives of others.

Jasmine fulfils volunteering and leadership roles for multiple organisations, in which she has been participating for several years now.

Her current roles include being a Young People’s Advisory Committee member for Headspace, being an Outreach Team member for the Rosies Friends on the Street organisation, and she is part of the marketing team for the Young Sikh Professionals Network organisation. She is a Recovered Peer Mentor and Lived Experience Recovery Speaker for Eating Disorders Queensland. Finally, she volunteers her time at the College as the Eve Vocal Ensemble Rehearsal Assistant.

While at Sheldon, Jasmine was a valued member of Eve and many other ensembles. One of her most memorable performances was at the 2018 Arts Academies Awards. Alongside Rachel Head, and various other female staff members, Jasmine sang Never Enough by Loren Allred, from The Greatest Showman.

Jasmine says "These performances enabled me to feel a sense of belonging and purpose when the stresses of high school studies heightened. Therefore, I now volunteer my time in Eve to contribute to the uplifting culture for current and future group members."

Since graduating, Jasmine has completed her Bachelor of Nursing from the University of Queensland as her undergraduate degree, and she is planning to continue her studies in Medicine. In the meantime, Jasmine is completing a Graduate Diploma in Domestic and Family Violence Practice.

We are so proud of Jasmine and admire her ambition to make a difference in the world.
